Summary: 
Research related to the soil nematode fauna of forested areas in Australia is very limited, as are studies of the effect of the introduction of exotic pines on the soil fauna. The present study compared the nematode abundance in soil from Eucalyptus obliqua forests and a Pinus radiata plantation, and compared the relative representation of the major nematode orders in each forest type. Two nematode extraction techniques were employed - Centrifugal flotation (C.F.) and the Whitehead Tray (W.T.). The W.T. had a greater extraction efficiency than the C.F., but both techniques extracted significantly greater nematodes from soil taken from the E.obliqua dry sclerophyll sites compared to soil sampled from the pine plantation.
