General Note:
(Reference Abstract -- Abstract ) A brief examination was made of the area around Dookie in order to describe the Cambrian better in the Explanatory Notes for the Wangaratta 1:250,000 geological map. In this map the area around Dookie which is clearly hilly country in the middle of the Riverine Plain has been mapped as Cambrian consisting of a greenstone or diabase unit and a cherty shale unit. Before visiting the area a search was made of the previous literature on the area (referred to below). A photogeological study was (fig 1) carried out and dips were estimated from this as well as the boundary between the Palaeozoic inlier and the Cainozoic of the Riverine Plain. During the brief examination of the area available outcrops were examined both for lithology and dip information. The best information came from the numerous quarries in the area although most of these were only working the weathered zone.
