General Note
(Reference Abstract -- Abstract ) The northwest trending belt of metamorphic rocks about 35km wide through Omeo between Towanga and Ensay is the dominant geological feature of the Alpine study area. This metamorphic belt comsists of schist and gneiss believed to be Ordovician in age intruded by younger granites and other plutonic rocks. It is flanked to east and west successively by less metomorphosed Ordocician sediments, by Devonian volcanics and Devonian and Lower Carboniferous sediments, through the post Ordovician pre Permian geological history has been different on either flank.
